Reverend Dr. Nathan Musokanji Mugala
The Reverend Dr. Nathan Musokanji Mugala was born on October 10, 1962, in Mufulira, Zambia, Central Africa. He was born fourth (4th) to the late Reverend and Mrs. Banjo Mugala. Reverend Mugala was educated in the British School System of Central Africa, and after completing high school he pursued a teaching career at Kitwe Teachers' College and worked for the Zambian Government as a school teacher. It was during this time that the calling into the ministry became so strong upon his life.
In the summer of 1988, he was elected a youth delegate to attend the General Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Fort Worth, Texas. It was at this conference that he was offered a scholarship to attend Edward Waters College (now University) in Jacksonville, Florida where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with concentration in Accounting.
Reverend Mugala was admitted on trial to the East Florida Annual Conference of the 11th Episcopal District in 1990 and consequently ordained as an itinerate elder in the A. M. E. Church and served as an associate minister at Saint Stephen A. M. E. Church in Jacksonville. In the summer of 1993, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he earned a Master of Divinity Degree from Turner at the Interdenominational Theological Center. While doing so, he served as Pastor of Mount Pisgah A. M. E. Church, Federal Point, Fl., and as Assistant Pastor of Antioch A. M. E. Church, Stone Mountain, Ga.
After completing ITC he moved back to Florida and was assigned to pastor Mount Zion A. M. E. Church in Dade City, where he served faithfully from 1996-2000. In September 2000, Reverend Mugala was assigned to pastor in the West Florida Annual Conference at the Exciting Saint James A. M. E. Church, Marianna by the Rt. Reverend John Hurst Adams, Senior Bishop of the A. M. E. Church. In November 2002, Reverend Mugala was transferred to the Soaring South Conference and served at New Bethel A. M. E. Church, Clewiston. Then in May 2004 Reverend Nathan Mugala was assigned to the pastorate at Saint Paul A. M. E. Church, Fort Pierce. On December 1, 2007 during the 11th Episcopal District planning meeting, he was assigned to Allen Chapel, Daytona Beach by Bishop McKinley Young. He went on to earn his Doctor of Ministry Degree from United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio in December 2018. In October 2023 at the seat of the Central Annual Conference, Reverend Dr. Nathan Mugala was transferred to the West-Coast Annual Conference by the Rt. Reverend Frank M. Reid, III., and assigned to serve as Pastor of New Bethel AME Church, Lakeland, Florida. Rev. Dr. Mugala is married to Lady Brenda Mapoma Mugala.
Reverend Mugala is a member of the West-Coast Conference Board Of Examiners, the Polk County P.E.A.C.E. Organization and the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Among the numerous awards, Reverend Mugala has received the YPD's outstanding Pastor of the year in 2005, Lincoln Park Mainstreet Black History Participant in 2007, Central Conference WMS Big Mak Pastor of the year since 2009, Religious Leader of the Year by the Omicron Omicron Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. 2014. Inducted into the Turner Theological Seminary 'Hall of Fame' at the Turner's Founder's Day in February 2019.
